A late Mark van Bommel strike gave the German side real hope for the return leg in the Allianz Arena, after Real had stormed into a 3-1 lead thanks to a Raul double and one from Ruud van Nistelrooy.
We’re always satisfied after a win, but I’m not happy about conceding the second just before the end. We maintained a high tempo in the first half and caused Bayern some problems, but their second-half substitutions made it very difficult for us. They played more long, dangerous passes in the second half and psychologically we were afraid. Both teams performed better than in recent games and it was important to get a win as the Champions League is such a major competition.
